DEUTERONOMY 18:15-19
15 “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, 16 according to all you desired of the Lord your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ 17 “And the Lord said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. 18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

Here we have a blessed prophecy of Christ, the great prophet ( Nabi , spokesman, mouthpiece, preacher) of God, He would not be a foreigner, but would arise “from the midst of thee,” His office and work, Moses tells us, will be “like unto me,” and unto him shall all hearken. Even as Moses was God’s divinely appointed delivered and saviour of Israel, so it would be with this Prophet. “. . . , and thou shalt call his name JESUS; for it is he that shall save his people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21).—College Press, Deuteronomy Lesson Fourteen 16:18-20; 17:2-18:22

But where do you find Christ pictured in the book of Deuteronomy? Ada Habershon in The Study of Types lists 67 types and 13 contrasts between Moses and Christ. The Lord Jesus is seen in a twofold way in the book of Deuteronomy: by prophecy and by type. These words of Moses are recorded in Deuteronomy 18:15, ''The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken.'' After the Lord Jesus fed the 5,000 in Galilee, the people said, ''This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world'' (John 6:14). Shortly before the stones were hurled that crushed out the life of Stephen, that godly believer [quoted Moses] about Jesus. ''This is that Moses who said unto the children of Israel, A Prophet shall the Lord, your God, raise up unto you of your brethren, like me; Him shall ye hear'' (Acts 7:37). Stephen indicated that Jesus Christ is the One of whom Moses spoke.—Paul Van Gorder

Jesus, the promised Messiah, was the Lamb that was slain, crucified for our sins and trespasses. But He conquered death and walked away from His tomb, leaving it empty. And He will come again "and receive you to Myself; that where I [Jesus] am, there you may be also" (John 14:3).

PRAYER: Lord, you are Prophet, Priest, and King—Savior of my life. You are He that was promised and will come back again. I await your imminent return. Amen!
