JOHN 1:14-18

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

What a glorious meaning this ‘has for us — “the Word became flesh”. Since we are flesh and blood, and enslaved by the fear of death, Jesus shared with us, this nature in order that He might relieve us of this terrible fear which chains all humanity. He conquered Satan and took away his power of death! Furthermore, Jesus shared in our fleshly nature, without sin, that He might become our Eternal High Priest. We have a High Priest interceding before God on our behalf Who has been “touched with the feeling of our infirmities...tempted in all points like as we are...” (cf. Heb. 2:14-15; 4:14-16). Manifold are the blessings we partake of through the incarnation. We see God’s power demonstrated — to forgive sins (Mk. 2 9-12), over death (Jn. 11:43-44), over disease (Lk. 17:11- 19), over the elements (Mt. 14:22-33).—Paul T. Butler,  The Gospel of John, VOL. 1

Grace  and  truth.  What is grace? What is truth? It was Justin Holcomb that said, " Grace is the love of God shown to the unlovely; the peace of God given to the restless; the unmerited favor of God." In his article on Theolocast.org entitled,  What is Truth? A Christian Perspective , Brandon Clay defined  truth  this way: " Truth is not determined by personal feelings, popular vote, scientific consensus, or any human court of appeal. Truth simply is what is and is anchored in the God who created and sustains the universe."

Jesus is the embodiment of grace and truth . " Christ is the one who died, and more than that, who was raised, who is also at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us" (Romans 8:34). John the Baptist "testified about Him" (v. 15 NASB) and we now bear witness as we patiently await His return.

PRAYER:  Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your only begotten Son, that I should not perish, but have eternal life. He has taken away the power of death and has conquered Satan. I rest in His grace and stand in His truth. Amen!
