In all of creation, humans are the most celebrated. God has "crowned" us with "glory and honor." We are God's most crowning achievement. But when we consider the moon and the stars as they rule the night sky, why would God be concerned with us?
What is man, that thou art mindful of him?
What have we done to deserve such favor? For we were "shapen in iniquity" and in sin were we conceived (Psalm 51:5) . But from the beginning it was not so.
In the account of creation we are told that mankind is made in God's image and likeness (Genesis 1:26). After such were we made to rule over creation. We are the most superior in intellect and reason of all that was created. Nothing compares! All that is in the field, air, and sea are subject to our authority.
Often we occupy ourselves with the physical aspect of creation — climate change, pollution, etc. But what about our soul? Where will we spend our eternity?
Isaiah 64:6-7 says, " But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities. "
As Isaiah pled for God's mercy, we beseech God for the same.
